Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) for children with brachial plexus injuries from birth is used to improve the strength, coordination, and function of the affected arm and hand.  This modified method of CIMT involves restricting the use of the unaffected arm to encourage use of the impaired arm through targeted exercises and activities. This approach promotes neuroplasticity, helping the brain reorganize and strengthen neural pathways to enhance motor skills, dexterity, and overall arm function. It’s typically tailored to the child’s age and developmental stage, often incorporating play-based tasks to engage young patients effectively.

Cindy, is an occupational therapist and educator who is nationally renowned for her brachial plexus injury knowledge and expertise.
